After successfully completing CeMAP the Stepping Stones to Mortgage Broker™ journey commences:
Module 1

successful Stepping Stones brokers Apply for a delegate position. Application assessed and if accepted having passed the “Fit and Proper test” there is one low cost to join the programme and one to exit it should you choose to take employment. Choose 80% or 100% commission from outset.
Module 2: 10 day induction course
- Day 1 – IT preparation and business planning
- Day 2 – Research tool, compliance tools and client management systems
- Day 3 – Fact Find process – for mortgage business
- Day 4 – Research of whole of the market
- Day 5 – Compliant construction of client files and practise of client meeting process
- Day 6 – Full Process Meeting – structure/prep for filmed role play
- Days 7/8/9 – compliance issues inclusive of Treating Customers Fairly, Anti Money Laundering and Data Protection training
- Day 10 – Professional Competency Assessment – filmed role play
Once passed, this is 1st stage competence achieved. Also note that from stage 3 through to 5 you are earning commissions.
Module 3
Assigned Regional Director accompanies you on your live client meetings. Once signed off, this is 2nd stage competence achieved.
Module 4: Attendance of protection Academy. 5 day course
Designed to teach you generic and product specific technical knowledge and sales skills in relation to the marketing of Life Cover, Income Protection, Critical Illness cover, MPPI, buildings and contents and Private Medical insurance.
This course culminates in a professional competency assessment for mortgage and protection skill, care and diligence. Once signed off this is 3rd stage competence achieved.
Module 5
Assigned Regional director accompanies you on your live client meetings which are now inclusive of protection. Once signed off, this is 4th stage competence.
On the next quarterly company audit an assessment will be made of your progress so far including assessment of your key performance indicators. If all stages of competence are signed off and KPI’s are acceptable you will be granted.
Competent Advisor Status
This should be at around the 6 months service stage. As a competent advisor you now need to make a choice:
Choice 1 – Your own business practise OTE of £100K +++
Become an appointed representative of NLD – stay on a % split or pay a monthly fee option to receive 100% commission – You will be able to have your own trading style or company or partnership
Take your place on the FSA register, type in our FSA number 460421, click on appointed reps, click on any of our appointed reps – all of them have been on this journey and have made it – ask them about their experience.
New Leaf Distribution remains your Principle and as such takes responsibility for the advice that you give, pays the PII and supports you through continued compliance and business development and the support of our superb T and C scheme. We deal with the FSA on your behalf and pay all fees inclusive of FOS and FSCS. You now have the autonomy to build your brand in the market place.
Continue your academic studies on our FSCGB programme which is free to you as a member of the team.
Over the next months and years add Equity Release advice and business protection advice to your business. Look to add further value to your business through mortgage packaging or running your own commercial mortgage desk. You could train to move through to becoming a fully fledged Financial Advisor
Choice 2 – A Job in the Industry
Pay an exit fee
Join a major bank or lender or one of our strategic partners. You will be joining them as a competent advisor with experience and will be in a position to command a significant salary NOT a trainee’s salary. All you need to do now is work hard and grow and build with that organisation. You also have continued membership of the FSCGB programme for free.
