Testimonial - Westley Morris
My name is Westley Morris and up until the 10th May 2006, I was serving as a Sergeant with the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police.
Having served 10 years with HM Forces and having joined at the tender age of 16, the decision to leave the Army was a very daunting one indeed. I wanted to leave and settle down with my wife, however, I had no cast iron idea about what career I wanted to go into when I left.
I thought about a number of jobs but couldn’t decide. I took comfort in knowing that I had a year to make my mind up after I had signed off but that time quickly whittled away.
I first saw the advert for Mortgage Adviser in Quest magazine about 6 months before I was due to leave. The advert for CeMAP training was placed by New Leaf and I was first attracted by the potential earnings. As with most things, I thought it was too good to be true, so I rang the office.
I have to say that from the start Sarah and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful and they explained the whole process to me. This helped me immensely as I was very nervous about pursuing a career that I had no experience in whatsoever.
Through regular contact with the New Leaf office, they were able to take me through booking and paying for the course, as well as suggesting the best way to travel to the venues for training and providing information on accommodation in the area.
The first CeMAP module was held at the University of Westminster building in London. Again I was very apprehensive about the whole thing but then I met Mark Hobbs. Mark led the training and I found him to be a very professional and knowledgeable tutor. He was friendly and approachable and was very easy to learn from. Mark’s enthusiasm for the subject made me absolutely confident that I had made the right choice for my new career.
The second and third module training was held in Southend and again the girls at the New Leaf office had kept in constant contact with me and assisted me to ensure that I knew where I was going and where to stay when I got there.
Again the training was first class. Mark and the rest of the training staff knew their subject and delivered useful, relevant material and tuition. The training was given in such a way that a lot of the ‘Noise’ was taken out of the very comprehensive CeMAP training literature.
Following the tuition I received from New Leaf, I went on to pass all three CeMAP modules at the first attempt and even achieved distinction passes in several components of the exams. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for Mark and the New Leaf team I wouldn’t have been confident in passing in such an accomplished manner.
They made the transition to civvy street as smooth as possible for me and I now work as an Independent Mortgage Adviser in Belfast and enjoy every minute of it.
